Nigerian Muslims Against Military Changes On Jaji Bombings - JNI

Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Nigeria’s Muslim umbrella organization, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has expressed objection to recent military redeployments following the twin suicide bombings of a military church at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, Kaduna State.
The attack, on November 25, claimed 25 lives.  Defence Headquarters responded by redeploying the Commandant of the Armed Forces and Staff College, Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi Kure, and the Corps Commander, Infantry, Major General Muhammad D. Isa.
In a statement, a copy of which was sent to SaharaReporters, the Secretary General of JNI, Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, said that while JNI condemned the blasts and emphasized the need for an immediate and thorough investigation, the immediate removal of the two officers does not speak well of the military, saying they were known to be careful and objective in dealing with sensitive issues of national interest.
“While we are not against military posting, rushed decision on serious issues of this magnitude even before the committee charged with the investigation of the incidents submit its report leaves much to be desired,” JNI said, saying it could not understand the use of two different approaches to addressing the same issue.
“Nigerians may not understand why would the two Jaji officers be removed in connection to the blasts even before any proper investigation, while no immediate posting out could follow the bombings at the 1 Mechanised Division and the Police Headquarters which preceded it.
“The fact that the two officers who were swiftly removed are Muslims and were replaced by two officers who are non-Muslims makes any discerning observer to be suspicious of the motives behind the whole exercise.”
